Eritrean Youth Solidarity for Change (Eritreische Jungend Solidaritaet fuer Veraenderung), EYSC,  ist eine globale Bewegung fuer Demokratie in Eritrea. Die Bewegung begann 2010 als Facebook Gruppe (https://www.facebook.com/groups/eritreanyouth/).

Mit ueber 11.800 Mitgliedern (stand Juni 2012) ist EYSC die groesste Facebook Gruppe von Eritreischen Regimegegnern und eine der groessten Gruppen ueberhaupt zum Thema Eritrea. Die Bewegung kommuniziert bis heute hauptsaechlich ueber Facebook und ueber das Chat Programm Paltalk.

Mittlerweile gibt es auch eine Internetseite. Dort genannt sind die drei Hauptziele der Bewegung:

• "den sofortigen Ruecktritt von Isayas Afewerki
• die sofortige und bedingunglose Freilassung aller politischer Gefangenen
• die Beendung der als Wehrdienst getarnten Sklavenarbeit"

Mittlerweile hat die Bewegung schon viele Erfolgreiche Aktionen und Veranstaltungen durchgefuehrt. Besonders erwaehnenswert ist die 'Eritrean Youth Conference' (Eritreische Jungendkonferenz), die Ende Mai 2012 in Washington DC stattgefunden hat (Schlussbemerkungen auf Englisch).  

Darueber hinaus wurden von der Bewegung schon etliche weltweite Demonstrationen gegen das Regime in Eritrea geplant. Mitlgieder aus der EYSC Bewegung sind auch verantwortlich fuer das Projekt 'Arbi Harnet / Freedom Friday', das unten naeher beschrieben wird.

Es ist moeglich lokale EYSC Gruppen zu gruenden (sogenannte Chapter), um globale Aktionen zu unterstuetzen. Bisher gibt es Chapter in mehreren Staedten Nordamerikas und in England. Ein Chapter in Deutschland ist bereits geplant (Mehr Informationen).

'Arbi Harnet / Freedom Friday' ist eine Initiative von Mitgliedern von EYSC, die die unterdrueckte Bevoelkerung Eritreas zum friedlichen Protest aufruft. Dazu sollen alle Eritreer jeden Freitag Abend zu Hause bleiben, um Verbundenheit zu signalisieren und ein Netzwerk zu schaffen.

Diese Nachricht wird von Freiwilligen per Telefon in Eritrea verbreitet. Darueber hinaus hat die Gruppe nun schon mehrere sogannte 'Robocalls' finanziert, bei denen eine aufgenommene Nachricht an tausende von Telefonnummern abgespielt wird (Pressemitteilung und augenommene Nachricht).

Dadurch ist Arbi Harnet in kuerzester Zeit zu einem Gespraechsthema in Eritrea und der Diaspora geworden.

Einen interesanten Einblick in Arbi Harnet erhaelt man durch ein Awate.com interview mit Daniel Gebremichael, einem der Initiatoren von Arbi Harnet (Awate.com). Dort heisst es ueber die Ziele von Arbi Harnet:

"To desert the streets and cities is not our goal, it is an interim objective, a phase one if you wish. Let me explain this in more detail: As I have mentioned before, we needed a feasible strategy, in which we could boost the morale and demonstrate the unity of the people in a form of coordinated and visible protest. These are crucial elements for any kind of protest on the streets. First people need to feel united, strengthened, empowered. Then people need to open up and utilise channels of communication and enhance their ability to plan and enact coordinated events.  This is exactly the objective of Arbi Harnet at this point in time.

At the same time, we will set a statement, that enough is enough and that the tides are changing. But it is important for me to stress from the outset, that Arbi Harnet is a well and carefully explored strategy. We have no illusions about the fact that there will be no revolution if people simply stay at home. But this creats a sense of solidarity across those who ae seeking change in Eritrea. The kind of unity entailed in Arbi Harnet, is in our eyes the missing link, the missing pre-text for a revolution on the streets.

Arbi Harnet is, therefore, the building blocks of our long term objective; communication channels, capacity building, solidarity and empowerment is what we are injecting into our activism through these evenings of protest."

Und ueber die Prozesse der Initiative:

"We have set up a Global Coordination Group of 15 people covering strategy, mobilisation, and promotion. We further have a group of Arbi Harnet volunteers of over 50 people, on standby to take up tasks allotted via Facebook, and this number is growing by the day. Many people who follow us on the EYSC Facebook Pages, also phone and email their contacts and inform them about Arbi Harnet. So many people have committed their time and money to actively assist this campaign. And we receive a number of great ideas, many of which we are exploring and preparing behind the scenes, so we can stay ahead of PFDJ."
